The Artist
"My research stems from the meeting of nature, light and color."
The Artist Giuliano Fazzari
Giuliano Fazzari paints.
Always has.
He was born in Brandizzo, in Northern Italy, and grows up moving through different gazes:
from European painting to non-European, down to the deep roots of the Mediterranean.
But his painting is born elsewhere.
Outside the studio, in places crossed in silence, where color isn’t chosen — it’s met.
Woods, fields, flowers, earth. Living matter, gathered over time, transformed with patience.
For almost forty years his work has been built like this: by listening.
Color, for Fazzari, is never surface.
It is presence.
It is something that breathes, that changes, that holds an invisible memory. His works don’t represent the world — they pass through it.
Open, light, traversable spaces, where the gesture gradually frees itself of every weight until it becomes essential.
His work is hard to classify, and that is exactly the point.
It isn’t abstract in the canonical sense, because his works are always inhabited.
It isn’t figurative in the academic sense, because what he paints is not what you see, but what you feel.
In recent years, this research has moved ever closer to a subtle, almost quantum dimension:
a space where every mark is relation, every color is energy, every distance dissolves.
Lightness is not an effect.
It is a conquest.
It comes from a slow process, made of subtraction, listening and trust — a lightness that doesn’t simplify, but opens.
He works on canvas and on paper, with oils, water, resins and natural pigments, building a language in which matter is not support but a living part of the work.
His works are held in private collections and exhibition spaces in Italy and abroad, from Reggio Calabria to London, leaving silent traces, like color when it enters a surface and keeps living over time.
His atelier — an open space, crossed by meetings, teaching and sharing — is an integral part of his practice.
Because for Fazzari painting is not separate from life.
It is its most natural form.
"I paint to hear a music that only the petals of a flower or a leaf can tell."

"Art, for me, is a way of living in the world with care."

"I seek in color a form of simple, shareable truth."

Color processing
Color is not a means.
It is an origin
I walk in the woods, in the meadows, along rivers. I gather earths, powders, flowers. I’m not seeking only a shade - I’m seeking a presence. Every pigment has a story, a time, a light that brought it forth.
"In my work color isn’t bought: it is encountered”
"Every work is a stage of a journey that goes on."
